'Light of my life, fire of my loins.'
12:58For those who don't know, the title is the first line you see in the book Lolita. (Also a line from Lana Del Rey's song 'Off to the Races'). Lolita is a story focusing on a man called Humbert who becomes infatuated by a twelve year old girl called Lolita. This girl is seen as a seductive, meddling woman despite her age. Her immature attitude does not reflect in her fashion style and that's what makes her seem older than she really is.
I first heard about Lolita in Alexa Chung's 'It' and felt very intrigued.
After watching the film and seeing Alexa Chung's critic, I can really understand how she is a style icon.
Her seductive style and innocence combined make her a seem like a well rounded woman who has grown up and learned all about herself. She looks in control. Even in black and white these pictures show how powerful she is just in terms of style. The high waisted jeans and shirt combo in the last picture is something I would wear now. Lolita is timeless.
(p.s. I'm doing my essay on Lolita to hopefully make writing essays more interesting! Wish me luck!)
'And this is the only immortality you and I may share, my Lolita'
